Figuring out the Nature of an Unmanaged Dedicated Server
January 27th, 2012My brother recently asked me for a bit of advice about computers. I felt it was an important enough topic to write down in order to help others who might be wondering the same thing. Basically, he’s going to be putting a website online to sell some of the items he’s been putting together. However, he wasn’t sure if the option of going with an unmanaged dedicated server was right for him. One of the biggest aspects to help answer that question is to first examine what a server does. It basically stores a web page, and then serves it out to the world. Every time you load a URL in a web browser, that transaction is taking place. Now, the dedicated part of that means that unlike many servers, it’ll be dedicated to only his website. Often times the resources are divided between several different clients. But with a dedicated server, it’s all going to be for the person who holds the account.
